Fearful dove

This painting was created during a time of great turmoil in the artists relationship, and therefore the artist would not write a description for this piece. He said that it was too personal.

"Fearful Dove" has had numerous interpretations.

One that has been suggested is that the obvious split in the heart represents the decisions that the artist was dealing with at the time. The left side containing the blackened smaller heart image shadowed by night is a metaphor for the death of love and the emptiness left behind.

The right side of the heart is bathed in hot sunlight which shows hope and harmony. The softened dove represents the purity of love that still survives, along with freedom and hope that peace will be restored. This is only speculation, and the title alone does not suggest this. What do you think?
