Art Auction Season Preview Party

Thursday, May 15, 2024, 5:30 PM

Art Auction is a highly anticipated Sacramento tradition that draws thousands of bidders from the Sacramento region and beyond. Established and emerging artists are invited to submit their work for this annual event that features two virtual auctions, the Silent Auction and Big Names, Small Art, as well as a rousing, in-person Live Auction. The fun and festive Preview Party is the only in-person opportunity to explore all works available for bidding!

BEYOND MUSIC

This series dives into the connection between sound and sight, where painting meets rhythm and silence has shape. Inspired by evolving musical genres and sonic phenomena, Beyond Music explores what happens when art listens deeply.

Each small piece is a note, building into a larger visual symphony.

Spotlight on Vivace

Just announced: Vivace, a vibrant piece from the Beyond Music series, was exhibited and auctioned at the Crocker Museum of Art in California!

This marks my 4th year showing with the museum, and I’m honored to return with a painting that captures the bold pulse of modern music. Vivace means “lively” in musical terms, and this piece lives up to its name.

The Sound of Silence

Not all music is sound. Some is space. Some is silence.
Beyond Music embraces the full range, from the glitch of Vaporwave to the absence of notes in a pause.

These small abstract paintings are echoes of sound’s infinite forms. Each canvas holds a moment of imagined music.

Packing up Vivace today and feeling all the excitement that comes with preparing for the Crocker Art Museum’s auction. This piece, one of the boldest in Beyond Music, will soon join the walls of an institution I deeply admire.

VIVACE

6 x 4 in.

2022

Acrylic paint, metallic ink on canvas.

What’s in a Note?

Every painting in Beyond Music is roughly the size of a musical note.
That’s not an accident. I wanted each work to feel like it could be part of a larger score, a rhythmic gesture frozen in time.

This series is ongoing. As music continues to evolve, so will this visual response.

Music Theory in Paint

What does Folktronica look like? What shape does Vaporwave take? Beyond Music imagines abstract forms that could live inside the sounds we listen to.

From sonic experimentation to digital distortion, this series plays with the idea that every song has a palette, and every tone a texture.

From Studio to Museum

From studio wall to museum halls, Vivace is headed to California!

This piece was a favorite to paint, full of movement, metallic details, and vibrant layers that reflect rhythm and pulse.

If you’re near Sacramento, don’t miss this work at the Crocker Museum’s upcoming exhibition and auction event.
